Ethics in the grant profession begin the moment you begin creating relationships in your organization. Ethical standards and protocols are considerations from the first time you talk to a funder and remain throughout the stages of grants; from prospecting, to writing and managing the grant, to closing out, and through sustaining a positive relationship with the funder.
There is a standard of professionalism that has been created by the Grant Professional Association – the Code of Ethics. Members of GPA and those who attain the Grant Professional Certification are bound by this code, but it truly exists as a standard of professional practices for all individuals who engage in the process of writing and managing grants.
This webinar will discuss the difference between ethics and morals, explore the GPA Code of Ethics, and discuss scenarios where ethics play a role for grant writers and managers in the field. These ethical situations occur regularly in this profession, so we will discuss solutions for dilemmas that cause conflict and a lack of trust in many grant departments nationwide.

This will be an interactive discussion guided by an expert in the field with 4 years of experience as an active member and Chair of the GPA Ethics Committee and 18 years in the field.

Webinar Objectives

Grants are legal agreements between an organization and local funders, foundations, or the federal government. If proposals are not written with ethical standards, the grant may not be awarded. If awards are not managed with ethical standards, the grant may be cancelled and the risk of future awards will be put in jeopardy.
Oftentimes when grant proposals are written and managed, there are decisions to make regarding need data, community collaborations, staff and organizational capacity, implementation of programs, and compliance rules and regulations.
As each decision is made, there may be leaders and colleagues who do not understand the risks of utilizing exaggerated or old data, or promising outcomes beyond an organizations capacity to accomplish.  Ethical decisions become imperative in these situations, and in meeting the stated goals and outcomes, keeping necessary records, and following internal policies effectively and legally.

The majority of the time, it is a matter of educating all team members about ethical standards to reduce risk management.
